Every home is a building block
When we build better homes, we build better communities. Local families partner with Habitat for Humanity to build decent and affordable homes right here in Dubuque and Jackson Counties.
What do we mean by decent and affordable?
-
Decent
Habitat houses are modestly sized. They are large enough for homeowners’ needs, but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs affordable
-
Affordable
The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses.

Wood Street Project
The Wood Street Project is our first Planned Unit Development (PUD) in our Dubuque and Jackson Counties service area. Fourteen moderately sized, single-family homes will be built on approximately three acres in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.
On June 20th, we celebrated a major milestone in the Wood Street Project with a groundbreaking ceremony that brought together community members, partners, and supporters. This July, site development will commence, paving the way for the construction of the first three homes, which are scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
